Nirmal: Forest Minister Indrakaran Reddy said that steps would be taken to supply drinking water to every household in Nirmal everyday by fixing taps soon. He formally inaugurated one of the five elevated level surface reservoirs (ELSR), here on Sunday.
With the storage capacity of 10-lakh litres, the reservoir was formed for addressing the drinking water crisis and for meeting future needs of the town at an estimated cost of Rs 37.5 crore taken up under the prestigious Mission Bhageeratha (Urban).
Indrakaran Reddy said that 10,400 tap connections would be given with the advent of the drinking water facility, adding, a 97-km long pipeline would be laid as part of the scheme. The work of the reservoir was completed and it was thrown open to the public. The works of the remaining reservoirs were under progress, he stated.
Municipal commissioner Balakrishna said that 23.50 million litres of water would be supplied to households per day. He stated that with the help of the reservoir, 10 lakh litres would be provided to Sharad Mahal, Bagulawada, Mothinagar, Indranagar, Madina Colony, Priyadarshinagar, Zohra Nagar and Kalanagar localities of the town.
The Minister, later, performed special prayers at Sri Durgamatha temple located at Nandi Gundam of Nirmal town. He, who participated in the annual Bonalu festival here, requested the public to follow Covid-19 guidelines while celebrating festivals and religious affairs. He also suggested the citizens get vaccinated against the virus and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour to control the virus.
Indrakaran Reddy assured to develop Sri Kalimatha temple by granting funds Rs 1 crore. He recalled that Durgamatha shrine was built with the help of grants of Rs 50 lakh. He was accorded a grand welcome by priests and locals.
Zilla Parishad chairperson K Vijaya Laxmi, Collector Musharraf Faruqui Ali municipal chairperson Gandrath Eshwar, Libraries Corporation chairman, TRS leaders Jaganmohan Reddy, Allola Muralidhar Reddy, Pakala Ramchandar, K Venkat Chary, Devender Reddy, Akoji Kishan, Dasharath and Ravi were present.
