Drug Trafficking Attempt Busted: Drugs Worth Rs 60 Lakh Seized
Hyderabad, Aug 10 (Maxim News): The officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit (HZU) have seized 3 kg of ephedrine/pseudoephedrine drug valued at Rs 60 lakhs (illicit market value) from two persons who had come to Hyderabad to book a package of the drugs to New Zealand.

Upon thorough examination of the package, two vacuum-sealed transparent packets were recovered which contained a white substance in powder form. When the powder was tested with a field test kit, it indicated positive for ephedrine/pseudoephedrine.
The two persons have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act,1985.

Ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are classified as controlled substances under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
These chemicals serve as precursors for the illicit manufacture of amphetamine and ethamphetamine, collectively referred to as Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS).
