Eid-ul-Adha Celebrated In Jammu And Kashmir With Religious Fervour

Srinagar, May 27: Thousands of Muslims gathered at mosques and Eidgahs across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to celebrate Eid al-Adha with prayers, sacrifice and messages of peace and communal harmony.

Large congregations were reported from Budgam, Jammu, Banihal, Shopian and Kupwara, where worshippers offered special Eid prayers and exchanged greetings with family and community members.

Prayers Held Across Jammu And Kashmir

In Budgam, Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi said devotees gathered in large numbers at the Markazi Imambada and prayed for peace and prosperity.

He described Eid-ul-Adha as a festival that teaches compassion, sacrifice and humanity.

In Jammu, thousands gathered at Eidgah Jammu for prayers, with worshippers highlighting the importance of brotherhood, peaceful coexistence and unity.

Mufti Inayatullah Qasmi extended Eid greetings and prayed for peace, health and prosperity across the region.

Prayers were also held peacefully in Banihal, Shopian and Kupwara.

Bakrid Dates Differ Across India

While Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Eid-ul-Adha on May 27, most other states in India, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, are observing the festival on May 28 following regional moon sighting announcements.

The revised moon sighting led several institutions and governments to update holiday schedules.

The Telangana government recently shifted the official Bakrid holiday to May 28 after recommendations from religious bodies and the Wakf Board.

The festival commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and is considered one of the most important festivals in Islam.

Families traditionally mark the occasion through prayers, charity, sacrifice and community gatherings.
