Election Of Two Rajya Sabha Members In State
Hyderabad, Feb.25 (Maxim News): The Election Commission has announced the biennial elections to the Council of States. It stated that the term of office of the members of Rajya Sabha is due to expire on their retirement in April. In respect of the Telangana State, the terms of KVP Ramachandra Rao and Garikapati Mohan Rao are expiring on April 9.
According to the Telangana State Chief Electoral Officer, election notification will be issued on March 6. March 13 of the last date for filing nominations and nominations will be scrutinized on March 16. Last date of withdrawal of nominations is March 18. Polling will be held on March 26 from 9 am to 4 pm and votes will be counted on the same day at 5 pm. The entire election process will be completed by March 30.
It may be mentioned here that the term of office of 55 members of Rajya Sabha elected from 17 States is expiring. While the term of two Rajya Sabha members from Telangana KVP Ramachandra Rao and Garikapati Mohan Rao will be expiring on April 9, the term of four RS members Mohammad Ali Khan, T Subbarami Reddy, Thota Seetharama Lakshmi and K Keshava Rao from Andhra Pradesh is expiring on 9 April.
Elections will be held for four seats in the two Telugu States Andhra Pradesh 2 and Telangana 2. Polling for 55 seats will be held on March 26. The Rajya Sabha members are elected by the members of the legislatures of Assembly of various States. The number of members in the Upper House is 250, of which 12 are nominated by the President with distinguished personalities. The tenure of the members of the House is for six years and the third term of the members ends every two years. (Maxim News)
