ENC Appointment: Ramesh Babu Gets Additional Charge
- ENC Appointment in Irrigation Department after Anjad Hussain retirement
- ENC Appointment gives Ramesh Babu key decision making powers
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has made an ENC Appointment in the Irrigation Department by assigning additional responsibilities to Oleti Venkata Ramesh Babu. He has been appointed in place of Anjad Hussain, who retired last month. The government issued the order on Friday. Principal Secretary of the Irrigation Department Rahul Bojja issued the formal instructions.
The ENC Appointment comes after weeks of discussion across the state. The post had remained vacant since Anjad Hussain retired on January 31. Meanwhile, the delay in filling the position had drawn attention within administrative and political circles. Therefore, the government decided to assign additional charge to Venkata Ramesh Babu.
Ramesh Babu currently serves as the Chief Engineer of the Suryapet and Khammam districts. With this ENC Appointment, he will now handle broader responsibilities in the Irrigation Department. Officials confirmed that he will continue in his existing role while managing ENC duties. The decision places him at the center of irrigation administration.
The ENC Appointment holds strong importance in the department. The ENC General post plays a crucial role in managing irrigation works across the state. Earlier, the department was divided into 19 territories. All minor, medium, and major irrigation projects were brought under one system. The responsibilities were assigned to respective Chief Engineers under this structure.
However, the ENC has full decision making authority over all irrigation departments. The ENC also holds full powers in state level committees linked to the Irrigation Department and Dam Safety. Therefore, the role carries significant administrative and technical responsibility.
Anjad Hussain served as ENC until his retirement on January 31. Usually, when such a key post becomes vacant, the government appoints an in charge officer in advance, at least on a temporary basis. However, the Congress government did not fill the post even for a week. This delay became a topic of discussion across the state.
Meanwhile, there has been talk regarding the reasons behind the delay. It is being discussed that a rift between Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Uttam played a role in the ENC General post remaining vacant. However, the government has now addressed the issue through the ENC Appointment of Ramesh Babu.
Later, officials indicated that the decision aims to ensure continuity in irrigation administration. The ENC Appointment is expected to stabilize decision making in the department and support ongoing projects under a single authority.
