Details of the Case and Court Proceedings

The complainant, who is the wife of Jaswant Singh, along with the prosecution, had sought the death penalty for Kumar. The court had previously convicted Kumar on February 12 for the crime and sought a psychiatric and psychological evaluation of the convict, as required by a Supreme Court order for cases involving capital punishment. This report was requested from Tihar Central Jail, where Kumar is currently imprisoned.

While the murder charge carries the possibility of the death penalty, the court ultimately decided on life imprisonment as the punishment. The case had initially been registered by the Punjabi Bagh Police Station, but a special investigation team later took over the investigation.

This included looting, arson, and the destruction of Sikh properties. The mob attacked the home of the complainant, killing both Jaswant and Tarundeep Singh. In addition to the murders, the attackers looted their belongings and set the house on fire.
