Hyderabad: Police arrested twelve persons belonging to an inter state gang for circulating Fake Rs 500 Notes in Luxettipet of Mancherial district on Sunday night. Officers seized counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 5.98 lakh during the operation.
According to police, the accused used Fake Rs 500 Notes to cheat commercial establishments. They allegedly bought fuel, groceries and other commodities using the counterfeit currency. Meanwhile, police also seized 12 mobile phones and three cars from the group. Two more accused are absconding.
Briefing the media, Mancherial ACP R Prakash identified the arrested persons as Kanuganti Kranthi, Gadigoppula Ravinder, Thandra Prakash, Kona Madhukar, Sunka Suresh, Kamani Anil, Bandari Satyanarayana, IH Ramu Naik, Kandimalla Tirupati, Golla Kumara Swamy, Nagunuru Ramu and Devanaboina Sampath Kumar. They belong to Mancherial, Peddapalli and Siddipet districts. However, Ramu and Ravi, both from Kakinada, are still at large.
During interrogation, Kranthi and others reportedly admitted their role in circulating Fake Rs 500 Notes. They told police that they procured the counterfeit currency from Ramu and Ravi. Then, they used the fake cash to make purchases at fuel stations and other shops.
Police said the gang recently bought fuel from a station in Luxettipet by giving counterfeit cash. Therefore, officers began tracking their movements and gathered evidence. Later, they arrested the accused and seized the fake currency along with vehicles and phones.
The arrest has exposed an inter state counterfeit currency network operating in the region. Meanwhile, police are searching for the two absconding accused. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the Fake Rs 500 Notes and identify other possible links.
