Fear Of Losing Farmers’ Votes In Coming Assembly Elections: KCR May Decide To Wave Loan In Two Months

Hyderabad, July 15 (Maxim News): Because of the fear that the farmers particularly the small farmers may shift their stand and may go against the ruling BRS party led by the Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao government, KCR may take steps towards waiving crop loans of farmers upto Rs. one lakh in the next two months before the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India.

According to the sources from government officials who say that efforts have started to fulfill the promise of a loan waiver of up to Rs. 1 lakh, this decision has been taken due to the fact that the Assembly elections are coming soon. The KCR government has not waived farmers’ loans for four and a half years on the pretext of Corona. As a result, lakhs of farmers have become defaulters. Bankers are increasing pressure on them to repay the loans. due to this, opposition among farmers against eh government is increasing.

Pragati Bhavan sources have been alerted with survey reports and intelligence reports that if crop loans are not waived, all the farmers will work against the BRS party, it is known that it has been decided to waive farmers’ loans by the end of September, the government officials say that the finance department has been instructed to collect the necessary funds for this.

In its manifesto, BRS promised to waive the crop loans as on December 11, 2018, including interest up to Rs. 1 lakh. KCR also said the same thing on the floor of the House. It has been announced that the farmers will be freed from debt within four years. As of the cut-off date announced by the government, 40.66 lakh farmers in the state were found to have a loan of Rs. 25,936 crores (under Rs. one lakh), 3.98 lakh farmers have been declared ineligible in the name of benefitting only one person in a family. It is calculated that Rs. 19,198.38 crores belonging to 36.68 lakh farmers have to be waived.

So far only Rs. 1,207 crores belonging to 5.66 lakh farmers have been waived off. Although the government says that the loans taken by farmers up to Rs. 60 thousand have been waived, only the loans up to Rs. 37 thousand have been waived off, their number is only 6 percent of those who have to waive their loans. The rest of the loans have to be waived off.

As the number of these farmers is huge, the government has received signals that there is a risk that all of them will be reversed if they are not exempted. In view of the changing political situation in the state, it has been confirmed that it will be difficult to win again without fulfilling the promise of the last elections, it has been decided in principle to waive the loan in this contest, said the source.

Farmers are unhappy with the KCR government despite providing Rythu Bandhu, Insurance, and Free electricity. Warnings have been received that if this dissatisfaction continues, there is a risk of losing the votes of the farmer families. Although other schemes are available to the respective families, crop loans have become a burden for them. In some places, bankers cut the amount of Rythu Bandhu under the repayment of old loans. Fearing that this would sink the horn, the MLAs of the ruling party talked to the respective bank officials and persuaded them to pay the Rythu Bandhu amount to the farmers.

The source said, that some MLAs and other key public representatives brought this matter to the attention of KCR and Minister KTR and gave the suggestion that the decision on loan waiver should be taken quickly, otherwise, there is a risk of drowning. Considering the surveys, intelligence reports, and the appeals of the public representatives, the government may be inclined towards loan waivers despite financial constraints. It is said that the top officials of the Finance Department have already been ordered to provide up to Rs. 20 thousand crores required for loan waiver. (Maxim News)
