- Female constable hit sparks protest by excise staff
Hyderabad: A female excise constable was seriously injured after a car hit excise staff during an inspection linked to a ganja gang operating on the outskirts of the city. The incident took place around Friday midnight and raised serious concern among excise personnel. The attack occurred while officials were checking vehicles as part of their inspection drive.
According to the available information, excise woman constable Gajula Soumya suffered serious injuries in the incident. She was hit by a car while excise staff were conducting inspections. Following the impact, she sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a private hospital in the city. Doctors treating her said that her kidneys were damaged. Her condition is reported to be critical, and she remains under treatment.
Meanwhile, after the incident, the police acted swiftly and chased the vehicle involved in the attack. They later arrested two marijuana smugglers. During the operation, the police seized 2 kg of marijuana from the accused. Officials identified the arrested persons as residents of Nirmal district. The arrests followed a focused effort to track down those responsible for the attack on the excise staff.
Later, senior officials responded to the incident. The Collector and Tripathi visited constable Soumya at the hospital to enquire about her health condition. Their visit followed growing concern among excise staff over the safety of officers on duty, especially during night inspections targeting ganja gangs.
However, tension continued to build as excise personnel expressed their anger over the attack. Constables staged a dharna in front of the Nizamabad Excise Department SHO’s office. They demanded justice for Soumya, who was injured in what they described as an attack by a marijuana gang. The protest highlighted the risks faced by excise staff during enforcement operations.
Therefore, the case of the female constable hit by a car has drawn attention to ganja gang activity and the dangers involved in inspection duties. Police action, arrests, and the seizure of marijuana followed quickly, while protests by constables continued. Authorities are now handling both the investigation and the concerns raised by excise staff.
