Ballot method:

It is a well-known fact that EVMs are used in assembly and parliament elections. However, gram panchayat elections are conducted through ballot method. In each panchayat, one vote is for the sarpanch and another vote is for the ward member. In this way, two votes have to be cast. The ballot papers given to the voters are in two colors.

Sarpanch candidates have pink ballot papers and ward members have white ballot papers. The names of the contesting candidates do not appear on the ballot papers. Only the symbols allotted to them are visible. Sarpanch candidates have been allotted 30 symbols and ward members have been allotted 20 symbols.

NOTA symbol:

The NOTA symbol is at the end of the ballot paper. NOTA is also being used at the end of the ballot in Panchayat elections. If the voter does not like the above candidates, he can vote for NOTA. Arrangements have been made to have a space for the NOTA symbol at the end along with eight symbols in a single ballot paper. If this number is exceeded, another ballot paper will be added. That is, if more than eight people are in the fray anywhere, an additional ballot will be used.

Meanwhile, arrangements for the conduct of the elections are gaining momentum. The relevant staff is preparing ballot boxes and other polling equipment. Arrangements are being made to hold the elections in three phases on the 11th, 14th and 17th of this month. Polling will be conducted from 7 am to 1 pm.
