Five Hyderabadi Hunters Arrested
Hyderabad: On a reliable and credible information received by this office that poaching of Wild animals is taking place, a raid was conducted by the Vigilance and Anti-poaching officials of Telangana Forest Department in the early hours of 20.12.2020 at Jokora village near Varni in Nizambad district.
The officials raided a rice mill in the area and intercepted a poaching gang headed by a person named Luqman Affendi. On thorough search of the area the Forest officials found a Black Naped Hare which was hunted and skinned. They also found Two rifles with telescope and silencers , search lights, binoculars, knives, torch lights etc. on enquiry by the DFO Vigilance, Luqman Affendi stated that he had gone for hunting to the nearby forest areas and farmlands to hunt Black bucks, but could not find any. He hunted the Hare which he came across.
The Forest officials simultaneously conducted raid on the house of Luqman Affendi at Gudimalkapur Mehadipatnam and found meat in deep freeze packed in plastic bags. They also found two rifle Butts. These articles are taken into custody and the meat samples will be sent to CCMB Hyd’bad for identification of the Animal.
A Tata safari vehicle bearing no. AP 29 AN 0001 used in hunting was seized by the Forest officials along with the rifles and other equipment used in hunting from the accused. The Hare that was hunted was also seized. Detailed investigation into the case is on and the five offenders involved in the hunt are arrested and will be produced before the Judicial Court for remand for hunting and other violations of Wildlife Protection Act 1972. The information received by the Department shows that Luqman Affendi is a habitual hunter.
The Laqman Affendi is habitual hunter, regularly he used to invite his friends from Hyderabad, regarding providing wildlife meet, on the same context on Friday night he along with his associates were went for poaching of wildlife but his efforts were futile. Next day that’s on Saturday night and Sunday morning he along with his associates were went for hunting to near by forest areas. On credible information provided by PCCF vigilance, wildlife wing,with the help of police department, the vigilance team headed by DFO, vigilance-II with assistance of APS, Hyderabad FSP hyd teams, they proceed to Jakora on Saturday morning and reached to Nizamabad at 10.30pm, then started tracing of above poachers, on reliable information the teams were went and taken up raids on Affendi Binny rice mill at Jakora of Varni forest range of Nizamabad division, during the raids conducted by teams and its found that, they just reached and about to sleeping. During the searches inside the Rice mill the were found one freshly hunted Black naped hare carcass along with two weapons including night vision binaculars, ammunition, search lights were found. All the accused including seizures were handed over to NZB staff for further investigation.
Investigation will be conducted on his past activities suitable action taken. The raid was conducted DFO Vigilance from Hyd’bad and was ably supported by the officials of Police Department. The hunting of the Hare is punishable under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 with imprisonment up to 3 years or fine upto Rs. 25000/- or both. The five persons arrested include Luqman Affendi, his brother Imran Affendi, both residents of Hyd’bad, Shaik Raj Ahmed who looks after the affairs of Including the rice mill belonging to Luqman Affendi, Mohammed Jameel and Mohammed Shahrukh, workers of Luqman Affendi. Arrested persons are Luqman Affandi 47; Imran Affandi 50; Md Sharukh Khan 23; Shaik Raaz Ahmad 43 and Md Jameeluddin 61.
