Flood Prevention Strategies Discussed By GHMC And HYDRA For Ameerpet Metro Station And Maitrivanam Localities
Hyderabad, August 21, 2025: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) are jointly holding consultations to address measures for preventing flooding in Ameerpet metro station and Maitrivanam areas.
Previously, GHMC and HYDRA conducted separate field inspections and reviewed measures with officials to prevent flood-related issues.
On Thursday, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan and HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath, along with Zonal Commissioner Anuraag Jayanti, Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar, and technical consultants, visited Ameerpet metro station and Maitrivanam areas.
Both commissioners inspected obstacles affecting drainage channels in Ameerpet and Maitrivanam. They assessed possibilities for permanently controlling flood intensity near Ameerpet Metro Station and Maitrivanam through field-level exercises.

The drainage channel flowing through Krishna Kanth Park from areas like Jubilee Hills, Venkatagiri, Rahmat Nagar, and Yousufguda merges with the nala (drain) at Gayatri Nagar. Recently, heavy flooding from Madhuranagar and Srinivas Nagar West inundated roads, with Ameerpet Metro and Maitrivanam areas submerged in floodwater.
Preliminary findings indicate that the issue arises as drainage channels, originally 40 feet wide, narrow to 10 feet while crossing Ameerpet and SR Nagar main roads. To address this, plans are being prepared for drain remodeling (nala reconstruction) to widen the narrowed sections and prevent recurring flood issues in the future. (Maxim News)
