Hyderabad, Aug 14 (Maxim News): Hyderabad and the entire state have been receiving heavy rains for the past week. It is raining incessantly, especially in the city. Due to this, all the roads in the city are turning into ponds and puddles with flood water. In this sequence, Himayat Sagar, one of the twin reservoirs of Hyderabad, flooded on thursday (August 14) due to the rains in the upper reaches.
Due to the heavy flood water, the authorities are lifting 9 gates of Himayat Sagar reservoir and releasing water downstream. Currently, Himayat Sagar is receiving an inflow of 27 thousand cusecs. 9 gates are being opened and 9,900 cusecs of water is being released into Musi downstream.
The Himayat Sagar FTL is 1763.5 feet. The current water level in the reservoir is 1762.95 feet. With the lifting of the Himayat Sagar gates, the flood level in Musi has increased. Officials have alerted the people in the catchment area due to the lifting of the Himayatsagar gates and the increase in flood flow in Musi.
People in the low-lying areas have been told to be careful, People in the Musi catchment areas have been alerted. If the flood level increases and more gates have to be opened, the officials are making arrangements to move the people in the low-lying areas to safer areas. (Maxim News)
