Folk Artiste Anasuya Devi Passes Away, CM Condoles Demise
Hyderabad, March 24 (Maxim News): Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today expressed his grief over the demise of eminent folk artiste and Radio commentator Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi.
In a condolence message here today, the Chief Minister said Anasuya Devi was known to all as a Radio commentator, who participated in the freedom struggle and actively participated in the social activities. The CM conveyed his condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
Dr Anasuya Devi was a famous folk artiste, music director and writer. She was also a renowned harmonium player. She was a recipient of Kala Prapoorna Award. She got her first gramophone record at the age of 8. She was a child prodigy. She presented her talents in the august presence of eminent personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarvepalli Radha Krishnan during the freedom movement.
Anasuya Devi composed and sang the famous patriotic song “Jaya Jaya Jaya Priya Bharathi” written by her uncle Devulapally Krishna Shastry. Her two books “Bhava Geetalu”, compilation of folk songs were released on April 12, 2018 at Chennai to venerate her 90th birthday. Seven more books on folk songs and folk music were also released on the occasion. She was also honored with Doctorate by the Andhra University in 1977. She received Life Achievement Award from America and Queen of Folk award from Paris. (Maxim News)
