The Forensic Lab Fire at the Forensic Science Lab in Nampally, Hyderabad, has raised serious questions about the safety of evidence stored at the facility. Central Zone DCP Shilpavalli said it is still unclear which files were burnt in the incident. She confirmed that the lab handles entire file evidence related to criminal investigations. Therefore, officials are proceeding with caution as the assessment continues.
Responding to the Forensic Lab Fire, DCP Shilpavalli said the incident occurred around 10.30 am. She explained that an office boy noticed smoke coming from the first floor and then informed the fire brigade. However, since the office was not fully open at that time, only four staff members were present inside the building. All of them came out safely after noticing the fire.
Forensic Lab Fire breaks out in computer lab
According to available details, a major fire broke out at the Forensic Science Lab in Nampally on Saturday morning. The fire first started in the computer lab on the first floor of the building. Within minutes, however, the flames spread to other parts of the lab. As a result, computers and other electronic equipment inside the lab were destroyed. Thick black smoke filled the entire area, creating panic among the staff present at the site.
Meanwhile, after receiving information about the Forensic Lab Fire, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot. They used five fire engines to control the blaze. DCP Shilpavalli said the fire is now completely under control. However, she also stated that officials cannot yet go inside the building. Therefore, it remains unclear which files or materials were damaged in the lab.
Later, authorities said they initially suspect that a short circuit caused the fire accident. Senior officials also visited the site to review the situation. North Zone DIG Shweta and Khairatabad Zone DCP Shilpavalli reached the forensic lab soon after the incident. They examined the premises and discussed the next steps in the investigation.
Meanwhile, officials are investigating whether documents linked to key cases and forensic evidence were damaged in the Forensic Lab Fire. At the same time, several suspicions are being raised about the incident. It is being said that documents and evidence related to several key cases, including the vote-for-note case, are located in the lab. As a result, the incident continues to draw attention while authorities work to determine the extent of the damage.
