Hyderabad, August 08, 2024 – The growing global appetite for frozen Indian food, particularly in markets like America and Europe, was a focal point at the recent seminar on Food Processing & Packaging and Global Trends held at FTCCI in Red Hills. The event, organized by the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) and India Exposition Mart Limited (IEML), was supported by the Telangana Food Processing Society (TGFPS), the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), and the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI).

Government Support for Scaling Up Food Processing

Mr. Akhil Gawar, Director of the Telangana Food Processing Society (TGFPS), served as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the Telangana government’s focus on food processing as a key area of development. “While everyone knows how to produce, scaling up operations remains a challenge,” he noted. “Our focus is on assisting companies in scaling their operations by providing support in technology development, business modeling, branding, marketing, distribution, and cold chain development.”

Mr. Gawar also emphasized the government’s commitment to improving farmers’ incomes and empowering women. “Food processing is the largest sub-segment of MSMEs. Consumer health and safety are also top priorities,” he added.

Industry Insights and Sustainability in Food Processing

Special guest Mr. Suresh Kumar Singhal pointed out that the Indian food processing industry is at a pivotal juncture, especially with the government’s recent budget announcements underscoring its commitment to the sector’s growth and development.

Mr. Devansh Trivedi, Director of Shanti Boilers & Pressure Vessels Pvt. Ltd., spoke on Sustainability in Food Processing & Packaging. He shared insights on the critical role of sustainability in food production, best practices, and innovative approaches to ensuring long-term food security.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Rupesh Patel, Co-founder of Healthy Honest Foods Pvt. Ltd., who discussed Global Demand Trends and the Increasing Demand for Indian F&B Products. He provided valuable insights into the growing global demand for Indian food products, market trends, and opportunities for Indian businesses in the international arena.

“Frozen samosas, vegetarian biryani, and Indian curries are among the food products that are hugely popular abroad, particularly in countries with a significant Indian diaspora,” Mr. Patel shared. He also noted that many Indian companies exporting ready-to-eat food are focusing on frozen products, which are seeing a surge in demand overseas. “Not just Indians, but many foreigners are increasingly looking forward to these kinds of food products,” he added.

Mr. Patel also highlighted that the Indian samosa has evolved into a billion-dollar global snack. “Indian curries in frozen form are in high demand wherever Indians and students reside. Since the pandemic, Indian food has become more accessible globally,” he remarked.

Full Moon Ghee Gaining Popularity Abroad

Tamala Chatterjee, Chief Growth Officer at SID’s Farm, discussed the rising demand for Full Moon Ghee abroad. “Making ghee during the full moon is considered auspicious due to the Moon’s powerful forward-moving energy,” she explained. The practice, which dates back to Vedic times, involves making bilona ghee under the Purnima moon. “Full moon ghee is prized as a potent ojas-building and healing elixir, used as a medicinal ghee to promote balance in the body and soul,” she added.
