FSL Fire Accident: Over 1,100 Files Beyond Recovery
- Nagpur special team says data recovery not possible
- Nampally FSL building fire destroyed files, hard disks
Hyderabad: The FSL Fire Accident at the Nampally Forensic Science Lab has taken a serious turn. The Nagpur special team has made a key announcement on the burnt files. The team said that data recovery from the damaged material is not possible.
According to the Nagpur special team, a total of 1100 files were burnt in the fire. The team stated that it tried to recover the burnt files. However, it concluded that data recovery could not be done. The development relates to the fire that broke out on February 7 on the first floor of the FSL building in Nampally.
The Nagpur special team report said that 50 computers were damaged in the FSL Fire Accident. It also said that hard disks seized by police were burnt. These hard disks contained technical evidence collected in serious crimes. Meanwhile, it is learnt that crucial evidence related to one case was among the destroyed files.
Information also suggests that scientific evidence linked to the phone tapping case, which created a stir in the state, was reduced to ashes. However, clarity is still awaited on what exactly was contained in all the burnt files. Therefore, questions remain over the full impact of the FSL Fire Accident.
The FSL lab plays a key role in crime investigation in the state. It supports probes into murders, robberies, sexual assaults, and fraud cases. Whenever a crime takes place, officials send collected samples and technical evidence to this lab for testing. The lab conducts fingerprint analysis, blood tests, hair and DNA tests. It also examines guns, bullets, poisons, intoxicants, ganja, drugs, heroin, signatures, and fake documents.
Given its critical role, the FSL Fire Accident has raised concern. Meanwhile, the Nagpur special team’s findings have added to the gravity of the situation. Further clarity is expected on the extent of the loss and its impact on ongoing investigations.
