Gender Violence Campaign Ends With Strong Call For Awareness

  • MANUU event stresses need to stop violence against women
  • Speakers highlight digital harassment and preventive steps

Hyderabad: The 16 days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence campaign concluded at Maulana Azad National Urdu University with a strong call to stop violence against women. The programme brought together speakers who stressed the urgent need for awareness and collective action. The event focused on the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence against all Women and Girls”.

Mr. K.B. Nawaz Khan, Retired Judge, said, “There is no place for any kind of violence against women in a civilized society”. He spoke as the chief guest at the valedictory programme and also said that such awareness programmes are an important step towards achieving a violence free society. His remarks set the tone for the discussions held through the session. He underlined the importance of education and guidance for women to stay safe, especially in online spaces.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tejaswini Madabhushi, CEO of Yugantar, delivered the keynote address. She highlighted the types of harassment faced by women in the current situation and spoke about the steps to be taken to prevent it. She also explained how digital platforms have created new risks that require constant vigilance. Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar of MANUU, presided over the valedictory programme and said it is the need of hour to make women aware against online harassment. He said more institutions must take part in outreach efforts to help women understand threats and respond early.

The Department of Women Education, Internal Complaints Committee and Centre for Women’s Studies organised the campaign in collaboration with the Cultural Activity Centre of MANUU. During the campaign, various awareness programmes were organised to raise awareness about harassment against women and the precautionary measures to be taken from such harassment. Later, Dr. Shabana Kesar, Head of the Department of Women Education, briefed about the achievements of the campaign as part of the concluding session. Dr. Parveen Qamar convened the programme and Dr. Tabrez Hussain Taj presented the vote of thanks.
