GHMC Commissioner Karnan Monitors Continuous Day and Night Works

Hyderabad, Oct 16: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified its citywide Road Safety Drive with the mission to ensure smooth traffic and safe commuting for citizens. As the rains have subsided, the civic body has accelerated repair operations across all zones under direct supervision from GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan.

Commissioner Karnan has placed special focus on achieving 100% pothole coverage under this ongoing campaign. The corporation’s engineering teams are working in mission mode, carrying out day and night repair works to restore road safety and prevent traffic congestion. Maintenance Chief Engineer Sahadev Ratnakar is personally monitoring the progress at the ground level across multiple zones.

According to GHMC data, as of October 17, 2025, officials have identified 18,685 potholes within the city limits, out of which 16,799 have already been repaired. Additionally, the civic body has completed 830 catch pit repairs, 406 cover replacements, and 14 central median restorations. Officials confirmed that all other repair works, including patching and cover replacements, are being done on an emergency basis to ensure commuter safety.

In zone-wise progress, LB Nagar Zone recorded 3,133 potholes filled, Charminar Zone addressed 2,547, Khairatabad Zone covered 2,789, Serilingampally Zone repaired 1,811, Kukatpally Zone completed 2,565, and Secunderabad Zone led with 3,954 filled potholes—making up the total count of 16,799 repairs to date.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan stated that with rainfall receding, the corporation is working on a war footing to avoid traffic jams and protect citizens from road hazards. He affirmed that the civic staff will continue operations until all roads are repaired and safe for travel across Hyderabad.
