GHMC entomology workers wage theft | Hyderabad, Feb. 3: GHMC entomology workers have alleged large scale wage cuts by outsourcing agencies, despite payments being released as per tender norms.

The workers say agencies are illegally retaining more than half their monthly wages.

During the 2021 Covid emergency, GHMC hired 220 entomology workers through outsourcing agencies.

The civic body appointed agencies zone wise through tenders across six GHMC zones. Superintending engineers handled agency oversight.

Since then, engineers have renewed agencies annually through tenders, with the last round held in April last year.

Under tender terms, agencies must pay Rs 805 per day to each worker. This comes to Rs 20,930 for 26 working days per month.

However, workers say agencies pay as little as Rs 9,000 per month in some zones. As a result, agencies allegedly pocket around Rs 11,930 per worker every month. Agencies Accused of Threats and Illegal Deductions

Workers allege agencies intimidate anyone who questions the short payments. According to them, agencies threaten termination and replacement with new workers.

Despite receiving full bills from GHMC, agencies fail to transfer full wages. Many workers continue only in hope of future payment.

Some agency representatives have reportedly claimed they quoted lower bids in tenders. They cite this as the reason for reduced wages.

Workers say this explanation violates tender rules and labour norms. They also allege officials are ignoring repeated complaints.

In several zones, workers say agencies do not provide PF or ESI benefits. These workers perform anti larva operations for mosquito control.

When health issues arise, they reportedly receive no medical cover. Labour unions have demanded a vigilance probe and recovery of unpaid wages from agencies.

They have urged GHMC authorities to ensure full salary payments without delay.
