GHMC reorganisation triggers major engineering and admin changes

GHMC reorganisation | Hyderabad, Jan 4 (Maxim News): The GHMC reorganisation process has moved a step forward, with the Telangana government restructuring the expanded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area into 300 wards, 60 circles, and 12 zones.

Officials confirmed that the government has also taken a policy level decision to divide the GHMC area into three separate municipal corporations.

However, senior officials said an official notification on the creation of three corporations is still pending.

Meanwhile, keeping the proposed three corporation structure in mind, the government has already begun administrative preparations.

Authorities have allocated officers to key departments, including administration, town planning, engineering, sanitation, and health.

Officials said these steps aim to ensure smoother functioning once the formal division is announced.

As part of the GHMC reorganisation, additional commissioners have been posted in six zones, with two zones assigned under each additional commissioner.

Along with this, chief engineers and superintending engineers have been allotted to engineering project and maintenance wings.

The administration has also appointed three town planning directors to oversee planning functions across zones.

GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan issued orders on Saturday appointing junior town planning officers as zonal supervisory officers under the three directors.

K Srinivas has been appointed as Chief City Planner for Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Charminar, Shamshabad, Golconda, and Rajendranagar zones.

Director Venkanna has been placed in charge of Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Qutbullapur zones. Director Pradeep Kumar has been assigned Malkajgiri, Uppal, and LB Nagar zones.

Meanwhile, the engineering wing has seen large scale changes under the GHMC reorganisation plan. The Commissioner had earlier allotted chief engineers, superintending engineers, executive engineers, and deputy executive engineers for all 12 zones.

On Saturday, field level engineers were also posted. Officials confirmed that DEEs and AEEs have been attached to the offices of chief engineers, superintending engineers, and executive engineers.

In addition, one deputy executive engineer has been assigned to the quality control wing in each of the 12 zones. Overall, 103 DEEs and AEEs have been posted across 12 zones and 60 circles.

The corporation has also allotted 24 electrical engineers to various zones and circles to strengthen infrastructure monitoring.

Administrative and finance responsibilities have also been streamlined. K Venugopal has been appointed as Joint Commissioner for administration and finance for Malkajgiri, Uppal, and LB Nagar zones.

Similarly, Geetha Radhika has been posted as Joint Commissioner for Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Qutbullapur zones.

Commissioner Karnan directed both officers to report to the respective additional commissioners.

Officials said these changes under the GHMC reorganisation are intended to prepare the civic body for future administrative restructuring and to improve coordination across the city’s rapidly expanding urban areas.
