GHMC Restructuring Study Gains Pace in Telangana
GHMC Restructuring | Hyderabad, Nov. 26: The Telangana government ordered a fresh GHMC restructuring study as officials assess whether to form a mega Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation or split the region into two or more corporations.
The government asked municipal officials to study Delhi and Mumbai civic models. Officials will begin legal work after the report arrives.
The recent merger of twenty seven urban local bodies into GHMC triggered debate over the future shape of the civic body.
The new merger created talk on how the corporation should look in the coming years. A mega corporation may create administrative delays.
Officials say coordination issues may rise. Political activity in core areas may intensify. That may slow solutions to public issues. These concerns pushed new discussions.
Some officials support separate east and west corporations. They argue that smaller bodies improve governance.
Earlier proposals to form separate Hyderabad and Secunderabad corporations did not move ahead.
GHMC Restructuring and Administrative Options
The city now expands fast on both the Cyberabad and Rachakonda sides. This rapid spread raises doubts about whether two corporations will ease administration or create new gaps.
Another option focuses on Parliament boundaries. Some officials believe forming one corporation for each Lok Sabha segment may streamline tax collection.
Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Chevella constituencies fall within the Outer Ring Road.
Officials say this model allows quick problem identification and improves revenue transparency. Long pending house tax dues also pushed this idea.
Election schedules remain uncertain. The merger of new urban bodies may delay GHMC polls. Officials say at least one year is needed to adjust merged areas and prepare a new structure.
GHMC’s elected body term ends on February ten. A special officer will take charge until the study finishes.
Elections will follow after the final structure is confirmed. The newly merged bodies already function under special officers as their terms ended in January.
