Godavari flood level drops below the danger mark

People in Bhadrachalam town and other flood-affected areas in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district breathed a sigh of relief as the Godavari River’s flood level began to recede.

At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the river at Bhadrachalam had a water level of 47.70 feet, but the third flood level warning had not yet been lifted by the authorities.

Although the water level fell below this threshold on Tuesday, the officials have not formally canceled the third flood level alert, which is issued at 53 feet.

Water is being released downstream at a rate of 11.28 lakh cusecs, according to district collector D. Anudeep.

The flood level has decreased due to the downstream inflows. Due to the torrential rain in north Telangana and neighbouring Maharashtra, the river had been flowing over the third flood mark for more than a week.

Early on July 16th, 71.30 feet of floodwater reached its greatest height. Since more than three decades ago, this level was the highest. It had virtually surpassed 25 lakh cusecs of flood discharge.

People in relief camps may go home if the third level warning is lifted, according to the officials.

In light of the anticipated more rain, the state government has already declared that the aid camps will remain open till the month’s end.

After numerous villages and parts of Bhadrachalam town were submerged, more than 25,000 people were relocated to relief camps.

Heavy motors have been used by the district administration in Bhadrachalam to push floodwater out of flooded regions. With assistance from Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and ITC, the collector organised eight motors.

The collector oversaw the process of pumping water out of the riverbank temple of Bhadrachalam.

The operation to restore the damaged roadways was started by the Panchayat Raj Department. By rebuilding the damaged transformers and poles, the electrical agency has restored service to the affected areas.

Officials started distributing aid to those in need in the meantime. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised immediate financial aid of Rs 10,000 to each afflicted family during his visit to Bhadrachalam on Sunday. Additionally, the government would give each flood-affected family two months’ worth of 20 kg of rice.
