Godavari River Swells to 41.3 Feet at Bhadrachalam; First Warning Level Nears as Inflows Surge

Kothagudem/Hyderabad, July 12 (Maxim News): The water level in the Godavari River at Bhadrachalam has crossed the 41-foot mark, edging closer to the first warning level of 43 feet, as inflows continue to rise due to persistent rainfall in the upstream regions.

According to official reports, the water level stood at 41.10 feet at 10 am, rising steadily to 41.30 feet by noon, and remained unchanged as of 1 pm. Authorities attribute the surge to heavy rains in the catchment areas of Godavari’s major tributaries—Wainganga, Wardha, and Sabari—which are overflowing and feeding massive inflows into the river.

Officials on Alert as Flood Threat Looms

With floodwaters steadily increasing, district officials have issued precautionary alerts to residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas along the riverbanks. People have been advised to stay vigilant and follow all safety advisories.

Superintendent of Police B. Rohith Raju visited the Pushkar Ghats on Friday to monitor the situation and assess readiness for flood response operations. He confirmed that five District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) teams have been deployed and are on standby to assist residents.

“In case of emergencies, citizens are urged to dial 100 for immediate assistance,” the SP said, assuring that the administration is closely monitoring the situation.

Rainfall Status and Outlook

While the river swells, the rainfall situation across the Bhadradri Kothagudem district remained relatively calm on Saturday, with no significant rain reported in most mandals. However, weather officials continue to keep a close watch, given the upstream rainfall that could influence inflows in the coming days.

Authorities are preparing for a possible escalation to the first warning level, urging people living near the river to prepare for any eventualities. Local irrigation, police, and revenue departments are coordinating their efforts to ensure timely alerts and response actions.

Safety First for Riverbank Communities

The increasing flood level has once again brought into focus the need for early warning systems and proactive evacuation plans in vulnerable zones. The administration is expected to ramp up awareness and readiness campaigns as monsoon activity continues in full swing across the region.
