GODI India Achieves Milestone as India’s First to Attain LFP BIS Certification for Indigenous Li-ion Cells

Hyderabad/Switzerland, 17th January 2024: GODI India Private Limited, a Hyderabad-headquartered lithium-ion cell R&D and manufacturer, today proudly announced its groundbreaking achievement as the first Indian company to secure LFP BIS certification for its revolutionary Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Li-ion cells in thepresence of the honorable Chief Minister of Telangana Shri Revanth Reddy at the World Economic Forum, Davos. This noteworthy certification, confirming to IS 16046 Part-2:2018 / IEC 62133-2:2017 standards, is a testament to GODI’s unwavering commitment to innovation in the realm of advanced energy storage devices for electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy storage system (ESS) applications.

GODI achieved a milestone by developing India’s first in-house NMC811 cathode material-based Li-ion cells, BIS certified in mid-2022. Pioneering large Farad (2.7V-3000F) supercapacitors for surge power applications. GODI plans to setup large scale indigenous GIGA scale cell manufacturing of NMC and LFP for EV, ESS, and Defense. Focusing on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) material for energy storage, GODI’s LFP cells, tested to IS 16046 Part-2:2018 / IEC 62133-2:2017 and IS-16893 (Part-2&3): 2018 / IEC 62660 standards, earned BIS and AIS certifications—a testament to technical prowess and shared success with investor Graphite India Limited.

Backed by Blue Ashva Capital and Graphite India Ltd, GODI has become synonymous with pushing the boundaries of technological advancements while championing sustainability in the Indian tech industry. The recently certified LFP cells, meticulously designed and tested in-house, signify a giant leap toward reducing India’s dependence on imported LFP batteries.

These LFP cells boast an energy density exceeding 150 Wh/kg, exceptional charge-discharge rates, and a service life surpassing 2000 cycles. Rigorous reliability and abuse tests confirm the intrinsic safety and durability of GODI’s cells, positioning the company as a trailblazer in domestic energy storage.

Mahesh GODI, Founder and CEO, GODI India, expressed enthusiasm, stated, “Receiving LFP BIS certification is a monumental achievement. GODI aims to establish extensive indigenous manufacturing facilities for GIGA scale production of NMC & LFP cells, catering to the electric vehicle (EV), energy storage system (ESS) and defense sectors in India, Europe and USA. We are already in discussion with several domestic and international OEMs. This certification validates our technical prowess and solidifies our commitment to a self-reliant and sustainable future for energy storage in India. We are already working with several Indian LFP material manufacturers, and confident to the localization of LFP cell manufacturing with 100% supply of raw materials within Indian ecosystem in the coming 2- 3 years.”

“In addition to technical achievements, GODI leads in environmental responsibility. Our eco-friendly electrode and slurry-making process, using water as a solvent, reduces the cost per kWh by over 3% and minimizes the carbon footprint by approximately 30%, aligning with GODI’s commitment to a greener tomorrow,” he added.

Looking ahead, GODI aims to enhance LFP cell energy density, develop next-gen manganese-doped LFP materials, and formulate in-house electrolytes for a wide temperature range, especially for defense applications.

As a proud signatory to The Climate Pledge by Amazon, GODI is actively pursuing solvent-free and dry electrode coating processes, aiming to reduce the cost per kWh by over 5%. The company is open to collaborations with local raw material manufacturers to fortify a stable and sustainable supply chain, contributing to the larger vision of a technologically advanced and environmentally conscious India.
