Hyderabad: Gold chain snatched at Shamshabad on Saturday morning when unidentified persons targeted a woman outside her house. The incident caused concern among residents in the RGI Airport area, as the accused managed to flee after committing the crime. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.

According to the complaint, the victim was identified as Jayamma, a resident of Kumuri Basthi in the RGI Airport area. She was sweeping in front of her house when an unknown person approached her. Meanwhile, before she could react, the man flicked away the gold chain from her neck and escaped from the spot. The chain reportedly weighed four tolas.

Later, Jayamma approached the police and lodged a complaint. Following this, the RGI Airport police visited the location and conducted enquiries. Officers examined the surroundings and spoke to local residents to understand the sequence of events. However, the accused remained unidentified at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, police registered a case related to the gold chain snatching incident. They also began verifying footage from closed circuit cameras installed in the area. Officials said the footage could help trace the suspect’s movement before and after the crime. Therefore, teams are closely examining recordings from nearby cameras.

The gold chain snatched at Shamshabad has again highlighted safety concerns in residential localities around the airport area. Residents expressed worry over such incidents occurring in the morning hours. However, police officials said they were taking the case seriously and were working to identify the accused at the earliest.

Police said enquiries were still in progress. They added that further action would be taken based on evidence collected from the spot and CCTV footage. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have urged residents to remain alert while moving in public spaces.
