Governor Tamilisai Inaugurates Photo Exhibition on Freedom Fighters of Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Sept. 14: A five-day photo exhibition on freedom fighters of Hyderabad was inaugurated by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad. The photo exhibition which will continue till 18th of this month is being organized by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in association with the Union Ministry of Culture, in the wake of Government of India deciding to celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day officially on 17th of this month and continue the celebrations for one year till 17th September, 2023.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor has urged the present generation to know the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters who fought against the tyrannic rule of the Nizam and take inspiration from them. Emphasizing that 17th September is truly a liberation day as the people of the then Hyderabad state were liberated from the atrocities of the Nizam. She recalled the incidents of Parkal Massacre in which about 30 people were shot dead and the Bairanpally incident in which more than 90 people were thrown into a well by the Razakars. Saying that the first Home Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as Iron Man of India, initiated Operation Polo to merge the Hyderabad State into Indian Union and again the present Home Minister Shri Amit Shah will be the Chief Guest at the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations being organized in Hyderabad on 17th of this month.

Appreciating the efforts of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in putting together the exhibition on prominent freedom fighters of Hyderabad State, the Governor said that it would be a great enabler in getting the present generation know about the sacrifices made by our forefathers to fight against the atrocities of the Nizam and achieve the freedom they enjoy today.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri S. Venkateswar, Diirector General (South), Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), said the five-day photo exhibition is being organized to showcase the events highlighting the role of freedom fighters in their fight against the Nizam rule in the then princely state of Hyderabad. A total of 60 photos were put up for exhibition explaining the contribution of freedom fighters like Kumrum Bheem, Chakali Ilamma, Vandematram Ramachandra Rao, Bhagyareddy Verma, and Suravaram Pratapa Reddy.

Earlier, the Governor felicitated the eminent freedom fighter Shri Ramana Reddy and the family members of the freedom fighters who fought against the Nizam. Smt. Uma Nanduri, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture also spoke.

The Publications Division has put up a book exhibition and the Lalita Kala Academy a painting exhibition portraying freedom movement at the venue.
