Hyderabad: The Telangana government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5 lakh to families of the victims killed in the Saudi Arabia bus accident. The decision came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday, November 17. The tragic accident involved a bus carrying pilgrims that collided with a diesel tanker on the Mecca to Madinah route early Monday. Forty-five pilgrims, all from Hyderabad, lost their lives, and there was only one survivor.

The cabinet expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased. It also approved a government delegation to be sent immediately to Saudi Arabia. The delegation, led by Minister Mohammad Azharuddin, includes an MIM MLA and an officer from the minority welfare wing. This team will oversee arrangements and support the affected families.

The government has arranged for the cremation of the deceased according to their religious customs in Saudi Arabia. It has also decided to take two members from each bereaved family to Saudi Arabia to participate in the final rites and support processes. Meanwhile, a control room has been set up in the state secretariat to monitor the situation closely.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia is working closely with the Telangana government to assist the victims’ families emotionally and logistically. This response highlights the urgency and importance the Telangana government places on helping its citizens during such tragic events.
