Govt encourages farm mechanisation in big way: Niranjan

Hyderabad, July 28 (Maxim News): Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said there is need to increase the mechanisation in agriculture sector and to educate the farmers in a big way on the use of technology and innovative methods for the smart cultivation of agriculture.

Minister Niranjan Reddy, who was on two-day study tour in Gujarat to encourage the mechanisation in the agriculture sector, on Thursday visited the Shaktiman Industry in Rajkot and observed it’s agricultural implements designed for the domestic conditions in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy said that in the combined Andhra Pradesh, farmers used to work as daily wage labourers and there was no support for the agriculture sector. However, the situation has changed completely after the formation of Telangana State. With the construction of lift irrigation projects, water facility has improved drastically across the Telangana State and the government has provided additionally 80,000 acres of new ayacut in the State. With this, farmers are returning back to their native villages and have started cultivating the agriculture.

Even though it is a good sign that the cultivation area has increased in Telangana, farmers are facing scarcity of agricultural labourers. They are forced to depend on the labourers belonging to other States. At this juncture, there is need of promoting the farm mechanisation on a large scale and the State government is also taking several steps in this regard to encourage farmers in a big way, the Minister added.
