Govt Issued G.O Terminating Keshavapuram Reservoir Contract

Hyderabad, Nov 6 (Maxim News): As part of Godavari Phase-2, the Telangana government has canceled the Keshavapuram Reservoir work on the outskirts of Hyderabad, which was initiated by the previous BRS government of the then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The works designed by the previous BRS government to divert Godavari waters from Kondapochammasagar to Keshavapuram reservoir and from there to Hyderabad for drinking water needs have been stopped.

Municipal Administer and Urban Development (Engineering Department) has issued a G.O. canceling this contract. The government said that with this decision, the cost of nearly Rs. 2 thousand crores will be saved. With that cost, the government has prepared new proposals to extend the Godavari Phase-2 scheme from Mallannasagar to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs and provide drinking water for the needs of the greater Hyderabad city.

Recently, the state cabinet approved the project work of pumping 15 TMC of water from Mallannasagar for multiple purposes to supply 10 TMC of drinking water to Hyderabad and 5 TMC of water to the twin reservoirs. The Chief Minister directed the officials of the Water Board to call for tenders for these works soon.  

According to the old tenders, Godavari water from Ellampalli is lifted from Mallannasagar to Kondapochamma Sagar, and from there, it is lifted to fill the Kesavapuram pond.  5 TMC water storage reservoirs will be constructed in Kesavapuram pond, from there, 10 TMCs of drinking water need to be supplied to Hyderabad via-Ghanpur Even after six years these works have not started.  (Maxim News)
