Greenery is top priority in the city: Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi
Hyderabad, August 26: City Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that in order to provide a good environment to the city residents, plants are being grown in abundance in accordance with various innovative ideas, keeping in mind the balance along with environmental protection. Saplings were planted in Gafar Khan Park of Banjara Hills on Saturday during the crore sapling program across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor explained that as part of the green program for Telangana, the target was to plant 741 lakh saplings from 2014 to 2022-23 under the GHMC and 698.78 lakh saplings have been planted. He said that efforts are being made to increase greenery within the GHMC in innovative ways like avenue plantation, colony institution, open space, graveyards, etc.
In the budget of GHMC this year specially Rs. He said that 326 crore rupees have been allocated. He said that in the last financial year, the target of planting 50 lakh saplings was exceeded and 77.29 lakh saplings were planted beyond the target. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that as part of Harita Haram program for Telangana in this financial year, GHMC has set a target of planting 50 lakh saplings and so far about 42 lakh saplings have been planted and for that purpose 600 nurseries will be set up in the city and necessary saplings will be prepared. He said that 1 lakh 50 thousand saplings were planted in GHMC as part of the one day crore sapling planting programme.
