Gujarat elections 2022: BJP releases list of 160 candidates, 38 sitting MLAs dropped
Gujarat elections 2022 LIVE UPDATES: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of candidates for Gujarat Assembly polls. CM Bhupendra Patel is set to contest from Ghatlodia.
Earlier, it was reported that BJP is likely to finalise all candidates on Wednesday. The top BJP leadership was deliberating on Wednesday on the candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls, where the party is eyeing a victory for a seventh consecutive time.
The central election committee of BJP, also comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J P Nadda, had met in Delhi in the evening to finalise the candidates. Polling will be held in two phases in Gujarat on December 1 and 5.
Union ministers Bhupender Yadav and Mansukh Mandaviya were joined by Gujarat BJP president C R Patil at a press conference here where Yadav named the candidates selected by the party’s Central Election Committee at its meeting on Wednesday. Yadav said the list includes 69 sitting MLAs, indicating that a large number of incumbent legislators has been dropped.
