This registration cycle is the first after new H-1B visa rules came into effect. Therefore, applicants and companies must now follow revised procedures while submitting registrations. The updated rules mainly affect companies that plan to bring skilled experts from outside the United States.

According to the revised system, companies that want to hire foreign professionals must pay one lakh dollars if they are selected. Meanwhile, the authorities have also introduced changes to the H-1B visa lottery system. These changes aim to give higher priority to professionals who earn higher salaries.

New H-1B visa rules change selection and payment requirements

Under the revised rules, candidates with higher salaries will receive greater priority during the lottery process. As a result, experts say the changes may affect certain employment categories differently. In particular, the new system may have a negative impact on consulting firms that rely heavily on large numbers of applicants.

However, the changes are expected to benefit companies that hire professionals for senior level positions. Therefore, employers seeking experienced specialists may find the revised process more favorable. At the same time, the system introduces additional financial requirements during the selection process.

Companies must also pay a registration fee for each application submitted in the system. According to the current rules, employers must pay 215 dollars for every registration. This payment applies regardless of whether the candidate is selected in the lottery or not.

High competition for limited H-1B visas each year

Competition for H-1B visas remains intense every year because the number of visas is limited. The United States government issues only 85,000 H-1B visas annually. Therefore, many applicants compete for a limited number of available slots.

Out of the total quota, 20,000 visas are reserved for candidates who have completed higher education from universities in the United States. This allocation gives additional opportunities to graduates from American institutions.
