Handloom Workers Have Special Recognition at National Level: KTR
Hyderabad, Aug.7 (Maxim News): IT Minister K T Rama Rao today said that Telangana handloom workers have special recognition at national level. He participated in a program at Peoples Plaza on PV Marg to mark “National Handloom Day” here in the city.
The Minister said that the government is providing the handloom clothes marketing facility through e-commerce.
He visited an exhibition of the handloom workers on the occasion. Later he stated that the government of Telangana is in the forefront to support the handloom workers and weavers. We have been implementing a plan of action for the cause of the handloom workers and weavers in a big way. Our efforts are to provide at least Rs 12000 to Rs 15000 income to each handloom workers and weavers in Telangana. The state people have to encourage handloom workers for their quality work of clothes, the minister said.
The minister said that since 2018 the government has been honouring the best handloom workers with state awards. We offered Rs 25000 prize money to them and this year honoured 31 best handloom workers he said.
To encourage the handloom workers the government has been selling the products through e-commerce through the Golconda portal for the past four years, he stated. The government uses technology to attract present and future generations with new designs and patterns of clothes besides conducting fashion shows, KT Rama Rao said. The government offers 50 percent subsidy to the handloom workers on the materials used for cloth production under Cheneta Mitra and Cheyutha schemes.
Designs like double Ikkat, Jari, Gollabhama of Siddipet, and Armur silk are popular in the open market for the people, the Minister said and asked the people to purchase the handloom clothes.
