HC Asks Govt. To Stop Secretariat, Erramanzil Palace Demolition
Hyderabad, July 8 (Maxim News): In a significant development, the High Court has directed the State Government to stop the demolition of the Secretariat and Erramanzil Palace until further orders. The court observed that the matter was still sub-judice.
A bench headed by Chief Justice R S Chouhan was hearing a lunch motion petition moved by legal heirs of the Erramanzil Palace today. The plaintiff quested how the government could go ahead with demolition plan until the decision on paying appropriate compensation to their 12 acres’ land was pending from 1951 in courts.
Additionally, a social activist Mallaiah also filed a public interest litigation challenging the State government’s intention to shift the Secretariat and Assembly and to raze down the heritage Erramanzil Palace. The hearing in this case is postponed as well until two weeks.
The State Government was going ahead with its decision to constrict new Secretariat and Assembly buildings, contending that the existing Secretariat and Assembly buildings are unable to serve the intended purposes. The opposition parties as also other organizations were stoutly opposing the Government move. (Maxim News)
