Hearing In Supreme Court On MLAs Disqualification Petition: 4 Weeks Time For Speaker
Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 17 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court has heard the disqualification petitions of MLAs in Telangana. The apex court has given the Speaker another 4 weeks to decide on the matter. It has also adjourned the bearing of the case for 4 weeks.
Three separate petitions filed in connection with the disqualification of ten MLAs in Telangana came up for hearing before a bench headed by Chief justice of the Supreme Court, Justice BR Gavai, on Monday. On July 31, the bench headed by Justice BR Gavai had ordered a decision on the petitions filed by the BRS against those MLAs within three months.
However, since it was not possible to take a decision within that time due to various reasons, the Miscellaneous Application filed by the Secretary of Telangana legislative Assembly seeking another two months’ time to the Speaker was listed before the Cji’s bench at number 14.
Also, the contempt of court petition filed by BRS Working President K.Tarak Rama Rao seeking action against Speaker Gaddam prasad kumar for violating the Supreme Court’s order to take a decision within three months, is listed at number 36. Since the Speaker failed to take a decision within three months, another writ petition filed by KTR, seeking a direct hearing on their petitions and a decision, is listed at number 37. In this regard, the court, which took up the hearing on the respective petitions on Monday, gave the Speaker another 4 weeks (Maxim News)
