Heatwaves, late monsoon likely as El Nino impact intensifies
Hyderabad, Jan. 16 (Maxim News): El Nino Summer patterns are expected to shape the coming months, with sharp contrasts between the first and second halves of the season.
Early forecasts indicate that the first half of summer will see more rainfall and normal heat levels. However, the later months are likely to turn much hotter and drier, raising concerns over intense heat waves.
According to the outlook, the first half of summer will include the second half of February, March, and April. During this phase, weather conditions are expected to remain rainy. Normal summer heat is likely during this period. Therefore, extreme temperatures are not expected early in the season. Instead, intermittent rain may offer some relief from rising heat.
However, conditions are set to change sharply as summer progresses. The second half of summer is expected to turn much drier.
During May and the first half of June, massive heatwaves are likely. This phase may see prolonged spells of extreme heat. As a result, weather conditions could become harsh and difficult. The forecast warns that May and June are likely to be severely hot this year.
Meanwhile, this summer is expected to resemble the pattern seen in 2023. That year witnessed intense heat during the later summer months. Similarly, the coming season may follow the same trend. Therefore, early rains may give way to dangerous heat as El Nino effects strengthen.
In addition, a late monsoon is likely this year. This delay could further extend the hot and dry conditions. Heatwaves may persist longer due to the absence of timely monsoon rainfall. As temperatures rise, the impact could be felt across large regions during late summer.
The forecast also highlights possible cyclone activity. One recurring cyclone in the Bay of Bengal or a Biparjoy type cyclone in the Arabian Sea is likely. Such a system could extend heatwaves during June.
While cyclones often bring rain, their movement and structure can also intensify heat in surrounding areas. Therefore, even with early summer rain, late summer heat may worsen.
Overall, El Nino Summer conditions point to a mixed but challenging season. Early months may remain manageable due to rainfall.
However, later months could bring extreme heat and dryness. Weather watchers have warned that the second half of summer may be particularly severe.
As a result, preparedness for prolonged heat waves will be crucial in the months ahead. (Maxim News)
