Heavy Police Deployment At BJP And Congress Offices
- Congress dharna call triggers police deployment in Hyderabad
- National Herald case protests raise tension near Gandhi Bhavan
Heavy police deployment was reported at BJP and Congress offices following a call by the Congress for large scale protests. The situation turned tense after the All India Congress Committee called for dharnas in front of BJP offices across the country. The protests are linked to opposition to the Modi government’s recent decision to change the name of the National Employment Guarantee Scheme to Mahatma Gandhi. Congress leaders strongly opposed this decision and announced coordinated protests nationwide.
In Telangana, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud decided to hold dharnas in front of BJP offices across the state on Thursday. He directed Congress workers to participate in large numbers. Orders were issued to organise dharnas led by District Congress Committees at BJP offices in all district centres. In this context, police deployed heavy security near Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad to prevent any law and order issues.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders intensified their criticism of the BJP government over the National Herald case. They alleged harassment of AICC leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the last ten years. In this context, they stated that the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court erred in dismissing ED cases against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Mahesh Kumar Goud ordered protest programmes under the auspices of the DCCs against what he described as atrocities by the BJP. He also directed Congress leaders and TPCC affiliated groups to take the dharna seriously and ensure its success.
As tensions rose, police deployed a heavy force in front of the BJP office in Hyderabad. The police remained on alert after the Congress called for a siege of BJP offices. BJP party workers were also alerted due to the protest call. BJP Telangana state president Ramachandra Rao issued a strong warning against any siege of BJP offices. He warned that if their offices are attacked, they will not be quiet, they will resist and take revenge.
Rao further stated that attacking and destroying offices is not a good culture. He clarified that investigating agencies and the BJP have no connection.
He also said that investigating agencies and courts would examine what happened in the National Herald case. According to him, the Congress is trying to create a political splash by blaming the BJP. Against this backdrop, security arrangements remained tight as political tension continued to rise in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
