Hyderabad, July 26 (Maxim News): After a day of intermittent drizzle, Hyderabad was hit by a sudden downpour late Friday night, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged and triggering severe traffic congestion.
The heaviest rainfall struck around 8:30 PM, with nearly an hour of intense showers causing chaos on major roads. Low-lying areas such as Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Khairatabad, Panjagutta, Mehdipatnam, Langer House, Sheikhpet, and Kukatpally witnessed extensive flooding. As a result, vehicles were stranded, and commuters were stuck in prolonged traffic snarls.

According to the Meteorological Department, Yousufguda and Golconda recorded 2.5 cm of rainfall by 10 PM. Meanwhile, localities like Borabanda, Hitech City, Marredpally, Uppal, Musheerabad, and Secunderabad also reported significant waterlogging, leaving residents struggling to navigate submerged streets.
The situation worsened in several neighborhoods as manholes overflowed, allowing sewage to spill onto already flooded roads, raising public health and safety concerns. With the city already witnessing continuous rain over the past five days, the drainage infrastructure appears overwhelmed.
Adding to the concerns, heavy inflows were reported in the Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs. Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Managing Director Ashok Reddy visited both sites on Friday evening, directing staff to increase patrolling in catchment areas and monitor inflows through CCTV surveillance. Preventive measures are now being ramped up as more rains are expected in the coming days.
