High Court Gives Nod For Vajpayee’s Statue In Secunderabad Public Garden

Hyderabad, Jan 30 (Maxim News): The obstacles to the installation of a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Public Garden in Secunderabad Cantonment have been cleared. The High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL filed by social activist J. Umeshwara Rao challenging the proposal to install a statue in the park. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Varala heard the PIL filed challenging the removal of illegal structures for the installation of statues in the Picket Public Garden and the efforts to install a Vajpayee memorial statue.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the statues are being installed contrary to the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in the Centre vs Gujarat case.

Additional Solicitor General Narasimha Sharma, arguing for the Center, said that permission was given in 2022 to erect a statue of former Prime Minister Vajpayee, who brought international prestige to the country.  He said that this is not against the Supreme Court verdict.  After hearing the arguments, the court dismissed the PIL, stating that it could not interfere with the erection of the statue of Vajpayee, and issued an order.  (Maxim News)
