A hearing was held in the court today. After hearing the arguments, the High Court asked the government and the Election Commission to tell when the elections will be held. The government and the EC asked the court to give them two weeks to respond to the conduct of the elections. With this, the High Court agreed to this and gave them two weeks’ time. Later, the hearing was adjourned for two weeks.

It is known that the state government issued GO 9, giving 42 percent reservation to BCs in local elections. The Election Commission issued the election notification based on this GO. However, the High Court stayed the GO. The state government approached the Supreme Court on this. The reservation panchayat became untenable as the Supreme Court also dismissed the state government’s petition without conducting an investigation. With this, the local election process was temporarily halted. It is known that the Congress high command had announced that if orders were not received from the government, the party would give 42 percent reservation to BCs. (Maxim News)
