‘Hindu’ is a Nationalist Expression, Not Just Religious: RSS
Bengaluru/Hyderabad, Mar 23 (Maxim News): The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has emphasized that the term ‘Hindu’ is not just a religious identity but a nationalist expression that embodies India’s cultural, spiritual, and civilizational ethos.
RSS Sahakaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale made this statement while addressing a press conference after the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) meeting in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Hosabale stated, “From the perspective of the Sangh, being called a Hindu organization is not a matter of shame. I, along with crores of workers, feel that being called a Hindu is a matter of pride. ‘Hindu’ is a nationalist expression and not merely a religious one. It represents the cultural, spiritual, and civilizational identity of this land. Its acceptance is growing across Bharat, which we consider a positive development.”
Challenges in Organising Hindu Society
Hosabale acknowledged that organizing Hindu society has been a challenge due to its diversity and complexities. However, he noted that significant progress has been made with the involvement of both ordinary citizens and intellectuals.
“There was a time when, under the guise of secularism—especially pseudo-secularism—and due to distorted historical narratives, people felt uncertain about their identity. Today, a confident and vibrant Hindu society is emerging,” he said.
He, however, cautioned that challenges remain. “While Hindu society is awakening, there are still internal corrections required, such as addressing issues of untouchability and improving the societal approach towards women,” he added.
RSS on Waqf Bill Controversy
Speaking about the Waqf Bill controversy, Hosabale stated that the government has formed a joint commission to examine the issue, and the RSS will wait for its conclusions.
“It is not just the Sangh that has raised concerns. In Karnataka, for example, farmers—regardless of their political or ideological leanings—protested, claiming their lands were taken away. This became a major issue,” he said.
He cited the case of Windsor Manor, a five-star hotel in Bengaluru, which was declared Waqf property, along with similar incidents. He welcomed the formation of the joint commission and said the RSS would monitor developments closely.
RSS on Government and National Affairs
Commenting on the Union government’s performance, Hosabale remarked, “So far, everything is going smoothly. The RSS does not interfere in the government’s daily affairs. However, when issues concerning the people arise, there is a mechanism in place to address them. If needed, the RSS will certainly express its opinion. At present, we believe everything is progressing well.”
He also stated that in terms of national security and international relations, the situation remains stable and there is no immediate need for a review. (Maxim News)
