Hyderabad, Dec 21 (Maxim News): The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has taken proactive steps to overcome the water shortage in Hyderabad in the upcoming summer of 2026. The GHMC and ORR have formulated a Summer Action Plan for uninterrupted drinking water supply.
Currently, there are 1,150 tankers, 90 tanker filling stations and 150 filling points in the city. The company’s MD suggested setting up additional filling stations based on demand. HMWS&SB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy met with the officials and directed them to prepare micro-level plans and continuously monitor water allocation.
Ashok Reddy suggested making adjustments in low supply zones. In addition, he proposed to construct 50,000 rainwater harvesting pits in the ORR area in the next five years and take steps to infuse 5 to 10 TMC of water into the ground.
Officials expect this to eliminate the shortage of drinking water schemes in the future. It is noteworthy that this plan was formulated four months in advance to overcome the water shortage during the summer peak season. With these measures, the authorities are taking proactive steps to provide uninterrupted water supply to the people of Hyderabad. (Maxim News)
