Home Minister and DGP should resign: demands BJP’s Gudur

Hyderabad, Nov.10 (NSS): Bharatiya Janata Party state senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Thursday demanded state Home Minister Mahamood Ali and Director General of Police Mahendar Reddy to resign to their posts owing moral responsibility for tapping of the phone of Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarajan.

In a media statement, he said that the Governor has claimed that her phone has been tapped by the state police. The Governor stated that how the state government was able to know the private talks of her unless it has tapped her phone.

He said that the Home Minister and Director General of Police are directly responsible in protecting the rights of the people of the state. In fact the Home Minister is an appointee of the Governor. In such a situation how the HM allows the police to tap the phone of the Head of the state, the BJP leader wanted to know.

“It is an open secret that the government snoops on its political rivals. So it is not surprising that the Governor’s phone is also tapped since she was not in the good books of the ruling party,” he said.

He said that if the phone of the first citizen of the state and head of the government’s phone has been tapped what would be the fate of common people of the state.

The BJP leader said that the ruling party always suspects its political rivals and keeps a tab on their every movement. Even leaders of the own party were not spared as the ruling TRS lives in perpetual fear.

He said that the government has a scant respect for the fundamental rights of the citizens of the state. It infringes upon on their right to privacy and abuses its power to spy on them.

“Allegedly the tapping takes place from Red Hills of Hyderabad. The intelligence police use modern technology to tap the phone. It has been also alleged that it was in procession of Pegasus spyware,” he alleged.

He said that the government brazenly abuses the intelligence police and abuses all the powers bestowed on it by the Constitution. He said the political bosses of the TRS lead government use the official machinery to serve their selfish needs.

He said that governments cannot use the tapping facility at their will and wish. He said that there are stringent rules to use it and permissions are required to tap the phones. However, the state government never followed these rules and circumvented to serve its political needs.

“Governments have fallen in the past for tapping the phones. The Karnataka government was dismissed for tapping the phones in the past. In spite of that TRS government is indulging in tapping the phones with a confidence that no one would question it,” he said.

The BJP leader said that the Union Ministry of Personnel and Training and Union Ministry of Communications should take cognizance of the offences of TRS government and should order inquiry immediately. If it was found guilty, it should take action. (NSS)
