Howrah-Mumbai Express Derails: 2 Dead, Many Injured
Howrah-Mumbai Express | Hyderabad / New Delhi, July 30: Two people died, and 20 others were injured when a Howrah-Mumbai passenger train derailed early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:43 am near Jharkhand’s Charadharpur division, between Rajkharswan West Outer and Barabamboo.
Officials reported that all injured passengers have received first aid. Initial information indicates that 18 coaches derailed, including 16 passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car, as per a news agency.
The derailment was triggered when a goods train traveling in the opposite direction derailed, impacting the passenger train.
Rescue and relief operations are currently underway, with further details pending. Train traffic along this route has been disrupted following the accident.

Around five trains stand cancelled and four others have been short-terminated due to the derailment incident in Jharkhand, the SER has said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and criticized the central government over the incident.
“Another disastrous rail accident! Howrah-Mumbai mail derailed in Chakradharpur division in Jharkhand today early morning, multiple deaths and a huge number of injuries are the tragic consequences. I seriously ask: is this governance? This series of nightmares almost every week, this unending procession of deaths and injuries on railway tracks: for how long shall we tolerate this? Will there be no end to the callousness of the Government of India?!” she wrote on X.
This month has seen several train derailments. On July 18, at least four people died, and around 20 were injured when several bogies of the Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. A few days later, a goods train derailed near Amroha railway station, disrupting the Delhi-Lucknow rail line, though no injuries were reported.
