Hussain Sagar Near Full Tank Level: IMD Warns of Heavy Rains in Hyderabad Till July 21

Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 (Maxim News): The iconic Hussain Sagar Lake in the heart of Hyderabad is nearing its Full Tank Level (FTL) following continuous rainfall in the city. According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the water level in Hussain Sagar reached 513.41 metres at 5 PM on Friday, just shy of its FTL of 514.75 metres. The inflow is expected to rise further in the coming days if the rains continue as predicted.

Other Reservoirs Also See a Rise

The situation is similar in Osmansagar and Himayatsagar, two of Hyderabad’s most critical water reservoirs.

  • Osmansagar: Water level at 1782.50 feet (FTL is 1790 feet)
  • Himayatsagar: Water level at 1758.80 feet (FTL is 1763.50 feet)

These rising levels have prompted municipal officials to keep a close watch and issue alerts to residents in vulnerable low-lying zones, especially those along the Musi River and discharge channels.

IMD Forecast: Yellow Alert Issued

The IMD-Hyderabad has predicted moderate to heavy rains with gusty winds across the city, issuing a yellow alert in light of the current weather conditions. The downpours are expected to intensify between July 19 and July 21, especially in the evenings.

Authorities have warned that if water levels in Hussain Sagar or Musi River surpass safe limits, controlled water release operations may be initiated to prevent urban flooding.

  • Prepare for potential waterlogging or disruptions

Emergency teams are said to be on standby, and the GHMC is coordinating with Disaster Response Forces to ensure safety and rapid response if needed.
