Hyderabad: Authorities have identified 38 unauthorised buildings in Anjaiahnagar, Gachibowli, following the collapse of a seven-storey structure on Saturday.
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and HYDRAA have launched an enforcement drive to prevent further loss of life and property.
So far, officials have demolished nine buildings, issued notices to 28 unauthorised structures and sealed one building.
HYDRAA, CMC Intensify Action After Gachibowli Building Collapse
The enforcement drive is focused on buildings constructed on plots measuring less than 75 square yards where the structure exceeds seven metres in height.
Officials are also targeting buildings on plots larger than 75 square yards that were constructed without the required permission, regardless of their height.
CMC Commissioner G Srijana has directed town planning and enforcement teams to identify unauthorised structures through citizen complaints and suo motu inspections.
Officials have been instructed to continue demolitions and monitor the enforcement drive daily.
HYDRAA Flags Structural Safety Concerns
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the demolition works on Monday and said preventive action was necessary to avoid further casualties.
The building collapse also prompted officials to inspect neighbouring structures after residents raised concerns about buildings in a precarious condition.
Ranganath said some seven- and eight-storey buildings had reportedly been constructed on plots measuring only around 50 square yards.
In other cases, buildings had permission for just two floors but were allegedly extended later without proper approval.
Officials also found instances where structures had reportedly encroached on flood channels, raising additional safety concerns.
Vulnerable Structures Evacuated
Ranganath said action would be taken against buildings that violate construction rules while ensuring that demolition work does not endanger adjoining structures.
Officials are carrying out the demolition of damaged buildings cautiously to prevent further damage to nearby properties.
As a precaution, residents of vulnerable structures have been evacuated from the affected area.
The ongoing enforcement drive is expected to continue as authorities assess other buildings in Anjaiahnagar and surrounding areas for structural and regulatory violations.
