Hyderabad: Air Intelligence Unit Seized Gold Worth RS. 1.65 Cr
Based on reasonable suspicion that gold is being smuggled out of airport with the connivance of people working at Covid Testing Centre, at international arrivals, the Officers of Air Intelligence Unit, Hyderabad Customs, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, identified and intercepted a male Passenger, aged about 24 Years, who arrived from Dubai by Air India Flight No. AI-952 on 02.06.2022 and an employee of MAPMYGENOME, aged about 33 years.
During interception, it was found that a polythene cover containing 2 packets/pouches of hard metal and 4 packets/pouches of paste suspected to be gold was kept inside the dustbin placed in the cabin of MAPMYGENOME. The MAPMYGENOME employee during interrogation admitted that those pouches were handed over to him by the passenger during sample collection for Covid test. He further admitted that he was supposed to take out the pouches discreetly through Customs area for which he was offered a handsome consideration.
After conducting the standard tests, the material was certified to be Gold with 24 CT and 999 purity weighing 3.14 Kg and valued at approx. Rs. 1.65 Crores. It was only due to the alertness and the high vigil maintained by the officers, that the passenger and the employee were nabbed and gold was seized at RGIA, Hyderabad.
