Hyderabad: Baby Girl Donates Her Hair to Cancer Survivors
Hyderabad: Cyra Juventas is still learning to talk, but could already bring magic into someone’s life. The 16-month-old from Hyderabad donated her thick and good-textured hair to young cancer survivors.
The toddler is perhaps one of the youngest people from the city to donate hair for the cause. Her mother Jerusha Dorcas gave her daughter’s hair to Hyderabad Hair Donation Foundation, which works for cancer survivors.
“It is a known fact that many cancer patients, including kids, while responding to cancer treatment lose their hair due to side effects of chemotherapy. So I wanted to donate my daughter’s hair for them. Cyra’s hair would definitely grow back in a short span. But the hair she donated will help a cancer patient to overcome the trauma of hair loss and build self-confidence,” says her mother, who donated her hair thrice so far.
“I thought that she would cry during or after shaving her head. But she, surprisingly, did cry for a moment. It’s a very proud feeling for me,” she adds.
She hopes that the example of Cyra will inspire others also to take up such causes.
With the rising number of cancer cases in India, there has been a dire need for both hair donors as well as sponsors for wigs.
