Heat Wave?

A heat wave is a period of abnormally high temperatures that can last for several days or even weeks. It’s important to consider both the temperature itself and how it compares to the usual climate of the area. So, what might be a heat wave in one place could be normal summer weather in another.

Here are some key things to know about heat waves:

High Temperatures: The exact temperature that defines a heat wave can vary depending on location. But generally, it involves several days in a row with highs that are significantly hotter than usual.
Health Risks: Heat waves can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable populations like young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions. The extreme heat can lead to heat stroke, dehydration, and other health problems.
Humidity: High humidity often accompanies heat waves, making it feel even hotter and hindering the body’s ability to cool itself down through sweat.
Causes: Heat waves are caused by high-pressure systems that trap heat near the ground. Climate change is also making heat waves more frequent and intense.
If you’re living in an area experiencing a heat wave, it’s important to take steps to stay cool and safe. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during peak heat hours, and wearing loose-fitting clothing.
